The Challenges of the Estimator Role

The Estimator is a key player in closing a sale with a client. Often, they get involved at the early stages of project and their contribution can be instrumental to a successful negotiation. The key elements of the Estimator’s contribution are:

  • Getting a clear picture of the client’s requirements.
  • Researching project costs, including labour, equipment and materials.
  • Managing sub-contractors’ quotations.
  • Assessing levels of risk in relation to projects.
  • Monitoring projects in order to maintain alignment with cost forecasts.
  • Providing guidance, where appropriate, on alternative manufacturing methods.

Skills and Experience Required for the Estimator Role

We are looking for candidates who are excellent team members but can also work independently and provide leadership where necessary. Estimators need to be proactive, creative and excellent communicators; often they are required to develop a professional relationship with the client, and successfully manage the budget framework through to the project conclusion. You would ideally have appropriate experience in the construction industry, and the requisite qualifications for this role.

At ZAC Recruitment we place a good deal of emphasis on getting to know our candidates in the same way we take time to understand our clients. It’s important to us that we know where you are in your career, what your long-term aspirations are, and how the role you’re seeking to fill can take you one step closer to your goal.
